Dane — Setup

One file. Double-click it. It does the rest.

Download the setup file

Saves to your Downloads folder as DANE-SETUP.zip

Open the downloaded zip.
Double-click it. You'll get a file called DANE-SETUP.command with a little terminal icon.

Drag that file into your dane folder.
The one in Downloads that you already have.

Right-click it → Open → Open.
Right-click, not double-click — the first time only. The Mac will warn you it's from an "unidentified developer." That's normal for any file that didn't come from the App Store. Click Open anyway.

Type your Mac password when it asks.
Nothing appears while you type it. No dots, no stars, nothing moves. It is working. Type it and press return.

Wait. Go get a coffee.
5–15 minutes. Tons of text scrolls past — all normal. When it's done your browser opens Dane by itself.
Leave the black window open while you're using Dane. Closing it shuts Dane off. To stop it on purpose: click that window and press control + C.
Next time you want Dane, just double-click the same file again. It skips straight to starting up.

If it goes sideways

It opened in TextEdit instead of a black window.
The file lost its "runnable" flag. Open Terminal (⌘ + space, type Terminal), type bash  with a space after it, drag the file into the window, press return.

It stopped with an error.
Screenshot the whole window and send it to Jared. The file is built to tell you exactly where it gave up.
